I don't have a HP workstation, but one other forum member not the z I think the z But it looks like you may have to get a new motherboard to fix the issue, and I would not update the BIOS again. But nothing explained. I think that is lousy that HP does not have a set of instructions for how to use the crisis recovery jumper. I don't suppose you ever worked out a fix for this, did you? Powers on, Black screen, after 30 secs the fans spool up to full power.

I've tried the Fail-safe BootBlock recovery with a couple of different USB drives to no avail doesn't even seem to try to access them, no flashing on the drives at all. Just now I'm my main machine down! I can't afford quid for a new MoBo because HP has killed it, and I've had to resort to my old Z which just doesn't cut the mustard.

Anyone got any ideas? Power on, and wait Hi, how are you. I have the same problem at the moment with my z I was updating the BIOS to v. Now it has the same symptoms that you describe. I have followed your advice on your last post, I have moved the jumper E15 to pins but starts to bootloop inmediately.

It switches on and off constanly. Same as if you had taken the jumper off completely and tried to boot the system. The only way to make it switch on is by placing the jumper back to pins, but it just goes into black screen and after a minute or so the fans start to spin at full speed and nothing else happens. The latest BIOS executable is sp Guess it's just another instance of great documentation quality from HP! In any case, in my experiance is that it is important to use the version of BIOS that was installed on the machine just prior to the borked update attempt on the thumb drive during the recovery process.

So choose another service pack if it was some firmware other than what i have linked above. Anyway, if you double click on the sp?????. Alternatively you can use 7-zip to look inside an sp. Now that you have a small thumb drive appropriately ormated with the appropriate bin file placed on the root of the drive, insert it in a front usb2 port of the PC and power up the machine.

If you're luckiy it will start the firmware update process so don't interupt it or power down. Keep in mind that idealy, all firmware updates should be performed with the machine powered via a UPS as it removes the very smal risk that a power glitch borks the update process.

And, though tempting in some instances, do not power off the machine if you suspect a flash failure unless more than an hour has passed longer with servers. Be methodical and tell us exactly what you did and how it failed if you didn't have luck with the recovery process which is rather poorly defined by HP.

Try the following: Disconnect power and insert a thumb drive as before, then press and hold the Windows key and B key at the same time, reconnect power and press amnd hold the power button for 3 seconds while still holding Windows and B keys yes you need three hands.
